Question: Were you ever dumped from a job?

I remember at my last job, right after we raised our Series B, the company went on a hiring spree.

Within 3 and a half months, we had nearly doubled our headcount.

From the outside, it looked like we were scaling.

Internally, it was complete chaos. No one below leadership had any idea where their responsibilities ended and the next person’s began.

Value:

Anyone who’s worked at a startup could’ve guessed this hiring spree was a big mistake.

But for some reason, raising a ton of money gave our founders the green light to spend freely without thinking strategically, and they liked the idea of bringing in fresh (unnecessary) talent.

Within six months, the company’s headcount dropped by nearly 75%. I was included in that cut.

It freakin sucked.
